Stones and the Sacral Chakra (Swadhisthana)

Commonly called the Sacral Chakra or Lumbar chakra, Swadhisthana is located at the sacrum, the most resistant bone in the human body. It was thus considered the chakra of longevity and eternity and was named: Sacral Chakra (sacrum). The symbolism of the second chakra is creation. ‘Sacral’ or ‘that which creates’, this chakra is associated with fertility and reproduction in its purest form: creation.

This chakra’s natural element is water. It is influenced by the moon and allows us the appreciation of our feelings in our inner and outer worlds. It perfectly captures the emotional and serves as a filter to eliminate anything that would be harmful to our proper functioning, offering us infinite rebirth through its self-purification.

Second Chakra: Sacral, the Heart of Creativity

The word Swadhisthana means the home of the self and is derived from two words in Sanskrit: swad meaning ‘one’s own’ and dhisthana meaning ‘abode’, translating as ‘one’s own home’. This second chakra is therefore the master of self-expression, particularly the expression of vitality, sexuality and creativity. It links and establishes dialogue between our physical body and our aura (soul). The second chakra promotes the elevation of human consciousness by going beyond mere reproductive needs. It chooses to use this vital energy to be in harmony with reality and the self.

As previously stated, the Sacral Chakra is directly related to the sex organs. It brings flow of life while allowing you to appreciate the gifts it offers at all times. When it is balanced, pleasure is experienced in a healthy and guilt-free way. Balancing of this chakra is therefore essential to fully live out one’s desires, pleasures, and to experience new desires and activities. For example, when sexuality is fully experienced it allows one (thanks to the balance of the Sacral Chakra) to internalise the communion and subtle union with one's soul mate. In this regard, sex will strengthen the ego and vital energy (Kundalini), developing our spiritual nature by raising it to the upper echelons of the higher chakras. Through the total opening of the second chakra and the energetic fluidity of the latter, sexuality then becomes a powerful catalyst of evolution towards the seventh heaven.

Sacral Chakra Health Effects

If the Sacral Chakra or second chakra is too active, it can have serious consequences on sexual behaviour. Indeed, it can manifest as excess hypersexuality, leading to potentially compulsive behaviours whilst creating disorders within the body. The person may become inconsiderate, frustrated or over-emotional. Conversely, if the energy flow of the second chakra is inactive, the person may then experience fears or blockages related to sexuality that can lead to excessive anger or aggression. Blockages of the second chakra can cause difficulties in self-expression, self-containment, inferiority complexes, guilt, the internalisation of emotions, frustration in its broadest sense, and impotence.

When the Sacral Chakra is harmonised and balanced, the person feels respectable and honourable within. This feeling allows them to fully experience their feminine energies (male or female), to take pleasure in the good times in life and to look after themselves. Living well on your second chakra allows one to be assisted in all physical exercises, fosters creativity and inventiveness, develops relationships with others and helps with change in general.
