ECLOGITE ECLOGITE: ITS HISTORY, ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION, AND ITS LITHOTHERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES AND VIRTUES

HISTORY OF ECLOGITE STONE

Eclogite stone is a metamorphic rock formed in facies having undergone certain temperatures and pressure conditions. Its name was given by Abbot Haüy in 1822 and comes from the Greek word « eklogê ». Eskola is defined as metamorphic facies on rocks from basic protoliths. The name eclogite stone was historically given to a rock of basic nature. However, the term is used for the eclogite facies through linguistic evolution. Thus, the stone can be acidic with more than 53% silica, or basic.

Because of its hardness, eclogite stone was used for axe making during the Neolithic period. From the beginning of this period until the 6th millennium BC, it was exploited in the Southern Alps. From the 5th millennium BC onwards, its extraction was greatly expanded. For three millennia, the stone was used to make axe blades. It is assumed that the blades were purely ceremonial since they lacked ergonomic features. The stone had to be cut by percussion and polished. These blades can be seen all over Western Europe, in the Pyrenees, Scotland, Ireland, Denmark However, they are not found in Central Europe, except in Thuringia, since it is part of the megalithic culture. The « La Gerbaudière » quarry was exploited because of its massive rocks offering good resistance to wear, used for riprap due to its high density (3.3). Eclogite stone is used as ornamental stone.

ORIGIN AND COMPOSITION OF ECLOGITE STONE

Basic stone is composed of omphacite and garnet, which is a mixture of almandine, pyrope and grossularia. Omphacite is a solid solution between two poles: jadeite, clinopyroxene sodium, diopside, clinopyroxene calcium peridotite. The stone is also composed of common white mica (paragonite, phengite) and talc. These stones can contain kyanite in the form of small bright red and brown grains of rutile, depending on the thickness, and small pinkish patches. In contact with magnesian amphibole and kyanite, rare mica can be formed: preisweirkite, which has only 8 deposits in the world. On the Queyras site, it is found as a metamorphic mineral that originates from eclogitic facies.

Garnet and omphacite for the basic form are composed of mineral associations at given P-T conditions called paragenesis. There is also amphibole that develops at the interface between omphacite and garnet in both phases. Its presence shows that once formed, the stone underwent a P-T modification and clustered in the metamorphic field of the amphibolites.

During its formation, a metamorphic stone has different P-T conditions. They develop during the prograde path. The stone then reaches its maximum size. It degrades during exhumation. When Gt and Cpx are out of balance, a black crown is formed. It consists of hornblende and plagioclase which is a consequence of the modification of the assembly between the two elements.

The stone contains varying proportions of almandine, pyrope and grossular in the form of solid solutions. The amount of grossular must be less than 50 moles. Clinopyroxene is a solid solution formed of diopside and jadeite in variable proportions. Sometimes acmite is added. Rutile, magnetite and quartz are incidental. However, some stones contain kyanite, zoite, amphiboles, sodium mica, olivine, or enstatite such as peridotite.

LITHOTHERAPEUTIC VIRTUES AND PROPERTIES OF ECLOGITE STONE

ECLOGITE STONE’S PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFITS

The stone provides unfailing support during the difficult events in life by stimulating the will to treat disorders. It will help you to release your dark thoughts and the following emotions: fear, failure and danger in particular. Eclogite will act on the forces of regeneration and care by providing support to suffering people.

Psychologically, eclogite stone has numerous properties. First of all, it will bring you joy and strength of life, energy, courage, driving force and self-confidence. Secondly, it is associated with effects on willpower, self-confidence and success. It is a stone that offers strong anchor. It will help people to free themselves from certain negative patterns and behaviours. It has a power of regeneration, helping people in the fight against sadness, discouragement, failure and emotional instability. The stone will promote self-respect and will help to withstand challenges by providing a feeling of freedom. It allows regressions on past lives.

The mineral’s main reaction is to strengthen the heart and regulate blood circulation in the body. This has in fact been proven a number of times. Thanks to the increase in blood plasma and thus in white blood cells, there is an improvement in the assimilation of haemoglobin. This is a great help for people with blood dysfunctions, because the stone will eliminate the fatigue related to the symptoms. One can notice a strengthening of the capillary vessels, a decrease in abscesses, boils, inflammations and skin disorders as well as internal and external wounds.

Moreover, the stone eclogite has a tonic role on several organs: liver, spleen and kidneys. Sexual potency for both men and women is improved by protecting the reproductive areas and stimulating the reproductive system. It can help in the treatment of ringing in the ears, a reaction to joint pain, bone fractures. The spine is protected.
