History of Unakite Stone

Discovered in 1874 in southern United States, unakite stone owes its name to the mountains where it was found: the Unaka Mountains. This stone is also known as epidote stone. Originally, epidote was discovered by René Just Haüy in 1801 and takes its name from the Greek ‘epidosis’ meaning ‘complement’.

Today, unakite stone is widely used in jewellery, especially for the making of jewellery such as necklaces, or bracelets as well as small animals or Buddhas.

Origin and Composition of Unakite Stone

Unakite stone belongs to the altered granite group and is found in metasomatic, hydrothermal and metamorphic rocks. Its crystalline system is monoclinic. Unakite is composed primarily of calcium silicate, iron and aluminium.

Unakite is found in different colours but is most often composed of green and pink, revealing irregular crystals. If it is of high quality, it is considered semiprecious and can be polished and used in jewellery.

Litho Therapeutic Properties of Unakite Stone

Unakite Stone’s Mental Benefits

Mentally, unakite stone allows the wearer to face themselves. For example, if unakite is worn as a pendant, blockages linked to the past that are stored in the unconscious are gradually removed. Unakite also helps one to put situations in perspective and to take a step back.

Very rare to find it in a gem state, unakite stone is often found in honeycomb form. It works perfectly for bone problems when it is primarily composed of beige. Otherwise, unakite works on liver, bowel and gallbladder problems when it is green-yellow, or dark-green with light red marks.

Unakite Stone’s Physical Benefits

Physically, unakite stone regulates intestinal functions as well as the liver through the solar plexus chakra. Litho therapists also work on the root chakra to act directly on bone problems, rheumatism, and fractures. More generally, unakite strengthens your immune system.
